Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Progress in AD Research
As 2024 comes to an end, we look back on a year of breakthroughs, community partnerships, and dedication to advancing Alzheimer's research. Below, you'll find some key accomplishments that you can dive into.
Advancements in Research and Data Sharing
This year, ATRI made remarkable progress in research and data accessibility:
-
Landmark Data Sharing Initiatives:
We released comprehensive datasets from the Anti-Amyloid Treatment in Asymptomatic Alzheimer's (A4) and LEARN studies, enabling researchers worldwide to explore new insights into Alzheimer's disease. - Remote Blood Testing:
Our work shows promising results for using remote blood collection to identify potential participants for preclinical Alzheimer's disease (AD) trials. This approach could significantly improve the efficiency of research into this devastating disease. The San Diego Alzheimer’s Partners Day of SCervice annual event connects our local community to this world-changing progress. -
Participant-Centered Research:
Our commitment to inclusivity was highlighted in our post on enhancing Alzheimer's research through participant-centered approaches. This work continues to lead the way as detailed in the post about Public and Participant Involvement as the Pathway to Inclusive Dementia Research, published this year in the Alzheimer's & Dementia Journal. These efforts aim to make research more accessible and impactful. -
Key Presentations and Leadership:
Our presentations and leadership at key meetings included the Alzheimer's Association International Conference, Clinical Trial Alzheimer's Disease, National Institute of Health's Alzheimer's Research Summit, and more.
Educational Resources
Sharing knowledge is key to advancing our mission:
-
Webinar and Video Series:
This year, we released educational resources such as videos from Dr. Aisen and our annual World Alzheimer’s Day Webinar 2024. - Institute on Methods and Protocols for Advancement of Clinical Trials in Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (IMPACT-AD) celebrated five years with its Class of 2024.
- The ATRI Summer Student Intern Program continues to increase in the number of highly motivated students interested in considering a career in Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) clinical trials.
Recognitions and Awards
We are honored to highlight the achievements of our team members:
- Robert Rissman, PhD was recognized with a prestigious Alzheimer's award for his contributions to the field. Read more about his work here.
Better Trials for Better Treatments
As we close out the year, ATRI remains steadfast in its mission to rigorously test methods for early detection of and treatments for all stages of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementias. We thank all our participants, their families, and care partners. We celebrate all the collaborative work with sponsors, investigators, clinical sites and teams, and supporters who make this vital work possible.
