Jimenez-Maggiora to Present on AD Data Sharing at Fall ADRC Meeting

Gustavo Jimenez-Maggiora, PhD, MBA is speaking about the Alzheimer’s Therapeutic Research Institute (ATRI) data-sharing approach at the fall Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers (ADRC) meeting in Boston later this month.

Dr. Jimenez-Maggiora, Director of the Informatics Section at ATRI Keck School of Medicine of USC, will speak on Thursday, October 17th.  His talk, "Novel Approaches to Sharing Data and Specimens in Alzheimer's Disease Clinical Trials," covers the most recent iteration of his many years of work.  Informatics in this case is the science of processing huge amounts of clinical trial and observational study data from hundreds of clinical sites.  All the data points, samples of plasma, cognitive tests, and scans, as well as their associated values, are collected from thousands of participants, for storage and retrieval in the ongoing field of Alzheimer's and related dementia research.

Some of the novel approaches he plans to share include the recent release of A4-Study data, the use of AI in data sharing, the excitement surrounding this work, and ATRI's data-sharing commitments.

One of Jimenez-Maggiora's aims in attending the meeting is to enhance cooperation among the ADCRs, the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC), and the Alzheimer's Clinical Trial Consortium (ACTC).

In anticipation of his presentation, Jimenez-Maggiora shared, “The collaboration between the National Institute of Aging (NIA) and ATRI in sharing data from clinical trials and studies provides a unique chance to investigate important biological markers related to Alzheimer’s disease and other related conditions. Tracking how these markers change over time is essential for developing effective ways to prevent and treat Alzheimer’s.”
